The Government are looking to introduce a law, which allows parents who have suffered the death of a child to be entitled to receive statutory paid leave to grieve. The idea is to ensure grieving parents in employment receive paid leave to grieve away from the workplace.
As it stands, the Employment Rights Act gives employees the right to take a ‘reasonable’ amount of unpaid time off work following the death of a dependent.
The Government will be working with employers, employees and union representatives to discuss these proposals further.
